Baby, I’m a belieber

No, that’s not a spelling mistake. That’s an internet neologism.

Other bands just have fans, the legendary Beatles had their Beatlemaniacs. Current teen sensation Justin Bieber has his, well, you guessed it, beliebers. That’s the hash tag (the one that goes #something) used by Justin Bieber fans, discussing his superhit ‘Baby’. It is like a tribal totem of Bieber fans, with typical messages on Twitter going, “RT if your (sic) a #belieber 😉 “. (Smiley obligatory)

And while we’re on Justin Bieber, a ‘biebette’ is a teenage girl obsessed with Justin Bieber. The term is somewhat derogatory, often used in a context where teenage girls’ behaviour at a live performance of the heartthrob can cause a major stampede scare.

Words. New words. The internet never fails to surprise.

About ozymandias

What am I? A body and brain, products of carbon concatenation chemistry, an intelligence and conscience to enable bits of DNA evolve. Maybe a pharaoh, maybe a dung-beetle, never more than a safe conduit for some genes.
